How she came to take up that role is an amazing storey of how God speaks to us. This testimony perfectly links last weeks sermon on Acts 10, and this week's on Acts 11. Really they should be listened to as a series, as series God has put together to speak clearly to us.

Rev Nick Grew looks at one of the most significant moments in the history of the church - the transition from Jewish Sect, to the Christian Church - open to all. This is an excellent and challenging sermon. Two questions are key: What is God saying, and what are you, me or we doing about it? The sermon ends with stating that more will follow next week. In these two sermons, and the testimony of Jo and Nick, God is speaking clearly to us at Holy Trinity Church, and St Saviour's. His message is clear to all who hear it, and it is up to us to respond.

As a church we’ve been doing this for some time, but Chris gave us a different way of looking at things. The talks and activities that weekend challenged us afresh and we tried out some familiar and unfamiliar ways of putting things into practice in our community. What God did was part of what he’s already begun, and he’s not finished with us yet! This recording is from the second session subtitled Re-imagining Mission Engagement - Dreaming. Friends of Chernobyl’s Children - Harvest 09

Friends of Chernobyl’s Children is a charity where once again we see the love of God for his people illustrated by His people. In the third of our discussions about direct action, our Vision and the Harvest, this is a recording of a presentation given to us on Sunday 27th Sept. FOCC bring kids impacted by the nuclear accident at the Chernobyl reactor to the UK and other countries in an effort to help them live a fuller and longer life. It is a fact that in the region where they live, life expectancy is 32 years. It is also a fact that for every month these kids spend away from the region, their life expectancy increases by 2 years. This is a factual, funny and moving presentation. It shows us that direct action is what our Lord wants from us – not to talk about doing things, but to actually do them. Show His love – don’t talk about it.

Harvest 09

The second and third postings in this series of three are taken from this years Harvest festival service held on 27th September. In this sermon, David Gale talks about the relevance of the harvest to us today. Let’s face it, we don’t rely on it being a great growing season for our food each day. We simply go to Sainsbury’s, Tesco’s or any other outlet to get hold of seasonal goods from all over the world. So why celebrate harvest? Drawing on Genesis 2:4-15 and James 5:1-6, David looks at the Him, Me and Us of the harvest.

Revisiting our Vision

The next three postings are slightly out of order in that they are not from consequative weeks, however it is important to listen to the three together. The first was recorded at the start of September, when Rev Nick Grew restated the vision we have for our parish – combining his description with the real life encounters of folk in our parish. In particular, John Durrant of Outside Light shared his experiences meeting young people where they are. Outside Light work on the streets where the people are and do not move them into the familiar (for us at least) surroundings of a church or youth club. They take risks, and are rewarded for that risk. They do not pontificate from a distance, but actually go to where those who need the risen Christ are, and bring that joy to them. This is a theme you will pick up on in our the following two postings. SB

Never The Less - Jo Parsons

The parish of Knaphill with Brookwood as a strong tie to the work of the Turning Point Trust, a charity working with street kids in the Kibera slum, Nairobi, Kenya. (http://www.tptrust.org/index.html) The two Field Directors, Jon and Jo Parsons are well known to the congregation, and as a body we actively support their work through prayer and giving. Each year they come back to the UK for some well earnt R&R, and also to meet with and brief on details of what has been happening in the project. At HTK, these visits have been come all the more special for the messages that Jo brings to us when she takes the opportunity extended to her to preach in our morning service. This sermon, recorded in July 09 talks about moving on despite opposition, and constantly reminds us that 'Never the less', the Lord took the opportunity and used it.

Healing a nation

Recorded on the 10th May 09, Rev Nick Grew brings a message to us that is a responce to God's prompting. Previously, one of our congregation had a picture from the Lord, she described it like this: "I had a picture where I was looking up at a land mass as if I was under water seeing it floating on top. Underneath I could see that there was virtually nothing holding it up & it looked like it was going to collapse. I felt the land represented our nation and that God was showing me that the foundations on which our society / way of life is built are virtually non-existent and about to break because they haven’t been laid in Him. I felt that foundations had been laid with a ‘total disregard’ attitude." "I felt frightened by this and a sense of urgency that we need to do something quickly. Again I repented and asked God for mercy. I then kept thinking about scaffolding being put underneath to hold the land up and a real sense of urgency to try and do something to stop collapse. I felt like this scaffolding needs to be the church, on behalf of the nation, holding the land up until correct foundations can be laid – that the scaffolding needs to be our cries for mercy and repentance and prayers, but felt like just one very small voice on my own doing this." Nick looks at how the church should respond to this. He asks us if the suggestion of God’s people being the scaffolding to uphold our society in this time of crisis is Biblically sound & reasonable, and if so, what do we need to do?

Rev Nick Grew spoke about choices, the doors that are there for us to chose to go through with our lives. This is a powerful sermon that challenges us to take control of our lives, rather than be a victim of circumstance. SB

APCM 2009 - Nick's reflections

Monday 30th March was APCM night for the parish of Knaphill with Brookwood. After all the business of the evening was completed – the thanks, the finance, the PCC, the Wardens etc, Rev Nick Grew spoke to us of the challenge ahead. The challenge he spoke of is very real. He spoke of the influence of culture and community on our church. Of prayer and of being outside of our comfort zones as we go forward as a church. This is a powerful challenge, for those of us who worship at Holy Trinity, Knaphill and St Saviour’s, Brookwood – and something that can not be ignored.

Women's Day Of World Prayer

The 6th March 09 was the Women's Day Of World Prayer. This year HTK hosted the service for the churches in Knaphill, and there was a good attendance of women from thoughout the area, meeting together to praise and worship the Lord, as were millions accross the world. This is a recording of the sermon given by the Rev Lucy Briley. It is an excellent sermon that challenges our perception of ourselves as Christians, and how we demonstrate our faith to the outside world.

Well, they said it couldn't be done, and they were right. In this excellent teaching, recorded at our evening service on 11/01/09, David Gale brings us the whole of the Old Testament in one hour - or rather, in 73 mins and 15 seconds. Given the quality of this sermon, I think we should forgive him the extra minutes. Now, if we could only persuade him to tackle the New Testament as well…..SB

The peacock on the Hall Roof In May 2007 was a sign from God. The ‘eyes’ on the tail feathers traditionally symbolise the all-seeing nature of God and 2 Chronicles 16 v 9 says, “The eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him”. We are already seeing how God strengthens those he finds ‘out there’ who are fully committed to Him. When Jesus told his Disciples to pray to the Father, “Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on Earth as in Heaven” he was already making that happen, as he explained in reply to a question from John the Baptist.. [Matthew 11v5]. Jesus not only told us to pray for the Kingdom, he gave us access to it through his Death and Resurrection. He also gave us the Holy Spirit so that we could inherit his mantle and become part of the answer to our prayer. Jesus even said we’d do greater things than Him [John 14v12]. If John was to ask for evidence of The Kingdom today we should expect to cite similar evidence to Jesus. In short, our mission is to become more and more a church that is, Making Jesus Visible by Word and Power This Podcast is a record of our responce to God's calling in our parish. It is a recording of a presentation given by Rev Nick Grew detailing who we, the members of the Parish of Knaphill with Brookwood, are going to answer that call.
